Team USA's Fire & Ice Gelato Cake for the World Cup Gelato

What an exciting start to the Year! With their theme Fire & Ice, Team USA put on an impressive display at the Gelato World Cup in Rimini, Italy this past January.

We were honored when the team came to us to help create their stunning Gelato “Fire & Ice” Cake. Initially, a flame cake with ice inside was discussed, but an Ice cake with a flame inside was deemed more effective. After Superman’s Fortress of Solitude was established, we supplied some concepts in the proposal. A Rendering of the “Fire & Ice” Cake was sent and approved, then our model maker went to work. Once the models were created, molds were made to shape the team’s various layers of their intricate “Fire & Ice” Gelato Cake. We designed the complex molds to be fairly easy to work with as the team had a lot to focus on once in Rimini.

Special thanks to Carlota Caldeira for sharing her photos.

The competition is a demanding one, reflected in seven different championship tests including a decorated “coppa” (sundae), gelato cake, four assorted miniature chocolate gelatos, an entrée serving a savory gelato, a center piece croccante sculpture as well as an ice sculpture and the final buffet.

The team placed seventh overall; in separate events, it placed first in Ice Sculpture, and third place in “Mystery Box Challenge.” Congratulations Gelato Team USA!
